2 Day Course
For Those trainers who are already certified as Manual Handling Instructors there is a process called RPL available to upgrade their certification to QQI Level 6.
We offer RPL Preparation Workshop(s) for this purpose. The learner then will attend the assessment day and complete the individual assessments (Examination, Presentation, Manual Handling Demonstration).
Who Should Attend?
This course is ideal for anyone who leads a team or anyone with interest in supporting others with mental health conditions and gives attendees the necessary skills and knowledge to help people experiencing distress due to mental health conditions.
The course works best with 8 participants.
Entry Requirements:
Learners should have already completed a Manual Handling Instructor course or the equivalent. In order to be accepted for this process learners must complete an RPL application form. The Course Director will review this and advise on whether the learner is a suitable candidate.

This course can be tailored to suit individual client company needs, and is available publicly each month live in the classroom, or via our virtual classroom.
Course Content:
- Introduction to mental health
- Recognising the signs and symptoms associated with anxiety and depression.
- How to develop empathic listening skills.
- Tools to challenging stigma.
- Improve productivity within the workplace.
- Decrease absenteeism.
- Improved performance from individuals and teams.
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this training, learners will:
- Know what mental health is and why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a Mental Health First Aid Responder.
- Understand how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition.
- Recognise and manage stress.
- Recognise and identify range mental conditions.
- Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health.
- Implement the first aid action plan for mental health.
- Know how to promote a positive mental health culture in the workplace.
Certification:
Learners who complete the course will receive an ASL Safety & Training Mental Health First Aid Responder Certificate.
