The PHECC First Aid Response course covers all of the occupational first-aid requirements for places of work as outlined by the Health and Safety Authority. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, there is a requirement on employers, based on a risk assessment, to have a sufficient number of adequately trained first-aiders in the workplace. The specific requirements for first aid provision at work depends on several factors including the size of the workplace, the numbers employed, the hazards arising, dispersal of employees and access to medical services.

Who Should Take This Course?

Anyone who wishes to learn more about first aid, and persons who are appointed first aiders in the workplace.

Training Methods:

The course is tutor led, the tutor will use a variety of techniques to ensure all trainees are successfully trained.

Assessment

The course assessment is split between theory examinations and practical skills demonstrations. The theory element is assessed using a multiple choice examination (MCQ) the practical element is assessed using skills sheets and scenario based practical assessments.

The course is 3 Days (24 hours) The course can be delivered over a number of evenings or weekends as necessary.

  • Cardiac First Response (CPR & AED, Choking & Stroke).
  • Common Medical Emergencies (Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures, Poisoning & Fainting).
  • Injury Management & Shock (Bleeding, Bone Injuries, Sprains, Strains & Dislocations, Shock).
  • Care of the Unconscious Patient.
  • Burns & Electrical Injury Care.
  • Hypothermia & Hyperthermia.
  • Information Management & Communications.
  • The Well-Being of the First-Aid Responder

Learning outcomes

  • Deal with life-threatening or potentially life-threatening conditions until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Provide an adequate response for conditions not thought to be life-threatening but are necessary to prevent further harm before the emergency medical services arrive.
  • Provide first-aid in a wide range of environments including the workplace, home and recreational settings.
  • Display personal skills including composure, competence and self-confidence while understanding their limitations.

Certification

PHECC Certificate is issued upon successful completion
